This website is a place to showcase innovative homecoming decorations that are homemade and inexpensive. I want to share ideas between schools! You may submit photos with plans/directions on how to achieve the decoration and a budget of the item. I will collect these items with the hope of creating a book someday. You will be given credit for your creations (first names, last name initial, school name and year).

Under the Sea? Jelly Fish Light Feature
These beautiful lights hung as our feature lighting in a huge gym. They created a soft, beautiful pink light.
#1) Take an 18-30 inch Chinese Lantern with battery powered led (about $12-25 each from Asian Imports) and put a square of light pink gossamer on the top like it is a ghost. There must be enough hanging fabric that it can be gathered and rolled at the bottom.
#2) Make a rolled circle at the bottom end of the lamp. Don't make it too tight in diameter. The rolled circle can be stapled into place.
#3) Use translucent, shimmery streamers (I found ours are M and N International for $15 a roll) to creat a tail. Cut a length that is 8 feet long. Loop it around the bottom metal support of the lamp, so it is equal on both sides. Staple it into place. You can cut it up the middle to make it have more movement... just be careful not to wreck the tail.
#4) Use gossamer scraps to add more bulk to the tail. Add ons can be unequal and a bit ragged. It just increases the visual impact.
